ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT !

Among various basic science courses, Chemistry is an evergreen subject. It is essential for the man kind and society for the daily needs of man. It provides ample opportunities for the students in terms of providing jobs in academic institutions, industries and research labs inside the country and outside and overall it gives shape of life to the chemistry students. Till recently post graduation in chemistry was confined to the university campus. Many chemistry aspirants did not have a chance to get the P.G. admission in university department. To provide easy access to the P.G. course, the Govt. of Karnataka and The Dept. of Collegiate Education decided to introduce the P.G. course in U.G. Colleges. In the Year 2007-08 the P.G. course was introduced in Government Science College, Hassan with the initiation of the then Principal Prof. H.V. Lakshminarayana. Till recently the department was headed by Dr.Shankare Gowda, who is presently working as Principal, Government College, Mosalehosahalli.
